Maori Concert and Hangi

Kia Ora, this evening was the pinnacle of our cultural journey so far, through the aotearoa, New Zealand. We had the privilege of attending a Maori concert and hangi feast. The locals of the Maori tribe shared many stories, customs and traditions which included carving, weaving, the haka, warrior training and poi performance and games. The group then presented us with a traditional hangi and Maori concert. After viewing the concert the group entered the dining room where we were served meat and vegetable that were cooked underground in the hangi. The meal consisted of lamb and chicken, potatoes, carrots, sweet potato and stuffing. We were also able to eat Maori bread which we had not had the chance to eat before. We were then blessed by the presence of dessert which was a combination of pavlova and steamed pudding, both were amazing. Overall the night was incredible and the girls described it as a spectacular insight into another culture.
